Artist Bio- MAtthew "Ducky" Billek

I’m a glass artist with a background in fine arts and a passion for working with flame. I earned my BFA in Fine Arts from Appalachian State University in the spring of 2025, and about two years ago, I found my way into glassblowing, a medium that immediately captivated me with its intensity and fluidity.

I deepened my practice at Penland School of Craft, where I had the opportunity to study under Dan Friday. That experience was transformative, helping me develop both my technical skills and my creative perspective.

Last summer, I interned at the glass studio at Dollywood, where I worked in a fast-paced production setting and gave live glassblowing demonstrations to the public. It was an incredible experience that pushed my skills and helped me grow more confident in both my craftsmanship and teaching.

Right now, I’m traveling the country teaching flameworking classes with Ikonic Glass. Sharing what I’ve learned while continuing to grow as an artist has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.
